adjusting backgrounds

i have heard if you save the image as a targa file you can then easily input a background in PS how does this work? When i open my targa in PS it just looks the same as any other image. should something be different?

In your case, unless your background image is on a VRayMtlWrapper (or if you set the object itself to be "Not visible to camera" in its properties), you will have a fully white alpha channel in your .TGA and will not be able to extract the background from the image.

You can always use the polygonal lasso tool in photoshop to select the background area (at least in this specific scene, it would be very quick).

Last thing... I find it better to have the image already in the 3D scene... this gives you better reflections (or use a HDR image)

Hope this wasn't too blurry of an answer ;)

Good luck

after saving as targa ...and if your glass had "affect alpha " ticked then you can select the alpha ...but in that case you will loose the reflection in the glass, so you can save the reflection pass separately ...then you can put them alltogether :D

thanks everyone for your help.

Kippu - i am a newbie to all this so please forgive my probably stupid questions but what is a reflection pass and how do i create one?

and how would i combine this reflection pass in PS? would there not be the same problem of the reflections and the background being inseperable?
