BrianKitts
How do you vary material maps in Max, so that they aren't really repetitive over a large area, ideally without using Unwrap UVW? Use larger sized maps, and learn how to use the offset filter in photoshop to paint out any tiling in your maps.

TomA
thanks v much! i've had a quick scan of those tutorials, i'll have a better look later. so it's essentially a photoshop issue then?
BrianKitts
so it's essentially a photoshop issue then? not necessarily..... it's an issue of the quality and setup of the maps you use. Photoshop is just a good (but not the only) tool to fix the problem. Blend materials is another option depending on the scenario for masking a tiling material.
