ap3
Hi there, recently doing some test using mental ray daylight system in 3dsmax 9 to light up an interior room, using 1 mr omni area light at the back and play around with FG & GI, criticize, comment and suggustion are welcome. AJLynn
The light isn't penetrating very well - this is sometimes difficult in Max9 and may require fudging some settings, like turning up the FG multiplier. It's actually a bit easier in 2008 because of light portals. Also I see that you're using a glossy interpolation on the floor, and it's visible in the second shot. I think, stylistically, the rug in the second shot would be more powerful if it had a bit of height - those Persian style rugs are usually 1/4" or more thick - and the yellow wall could have a bit of tuxturing to it, a very slight bump map and a very slight glossy map with a bit of reflection can go a log way here. ap3
Hi AJLynn, Thanks for your quick respond, i had been struggling with differ setting but still don't get a good afternoon atmosphere i want, besides how can i get outdoor scene seeing from inside room? will tackle the issues you mentioned and post it again. Thanks. ap3
AJLynn
The outside scene thing is hard, because mental ray is really rendering what it would look like to a camera - the outside is way brighter and does get blown out. There's not really elegant solution, the easiest is probably to use alpha to remove the windows from the interior shot and add the sky as a layer behind in Photoshop. ap3
No wondering people keep talking to use photoshop tackle behind the scene. Thanks for your comments, i think i need more time to work with photoshop if this is the case. Thanks. ap3
