Devin Johnston
When ever I create a new object be it a box or plane or what ever the center of the object locks to 0,0,0 and it's impossable to move. I've never seen this before and have no idea how this could have happened, has anyone seen this?
Devin Johnston
Is there a way to reset Max to its default settings, I've already done this in the customize user interface menu but is there a program wide reset I can try?
John Dollus
deleting the 3dsmax.ini will 'reboot' Max to defaults. Might want to save out your ui first Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\9 - 32bit\enu\
Devin Johnston
Thanks John that would have done it but I figured it out, it turns out I had a setting wrong in the motion panel.
Pangaea
hello Maxer i suddenly got the same problem as you, my 3ds max is now 100% unusable. tho after reading this post, the only reference on this problem that seems to be on the whole web, i now remember just before this all happened i was experimenting with the motion pannel... i thought to myself great i can fiddle around with the motion pannal and fix but.. but after some hours now ive unabled to fix this problem at all.. how come max saved the setting?.. i even rebooted my pc.. but still every thing i create in max is stuck in the centre and i cant move it at all. can you remember how to resolve this issue ... is it some setting in the motion pannel? .. please help im desperate at this stage. best regards pan
Devin Johnston
What I had done was change the position controller under the assign controller to something other than "Position XYZ" this was keeping anything I created from being moved. Check your Assign Position Controller and see if Position XYZ is picked, if not change it.
Pangaea
Thanks for the quick reply. Ok, im still in trouble here... I remember the last thing i did was make a spline line (with beizer curves).. then selected a camera, went to the motion pannal, selected position assign, opened the add assign window, assigned a "path constraint" procedure to the camera, and picked the spline line i created as an "add path" ... everything was working fine untill i started messing around with making the camera target also move along the path while banking...etc ... One thing i noticed while i was doing this is i could not work out how to "un assign" the camera to the path... so anyway, i deleted the camera (only way i could un assign it from the path) and created another camera... did the same steps as above, trying to tweek the animation.... when something went wrong i had to delete the camera and start over again (because there dose not seem to be a way to take the camera off the path once assigned to it).. anyway, i must have done this about 10 times, gave up in the end, so closed max, and cooled off. a day or so later I booted max up, and everything i create, from lights, objects, cameras, everything u can image is created at cords 0.0.0, no matter where i clicked the screen... not only that but when i try and move anything off 0.0.0, it refuses to.. its stuck , dead.. cant do anything with max now. after searching long into the night for help online, i found this forum, with what seemed to be my exact problem.... I relised then that there must be a setting on the motion pannel, that max saved into its config (why? stupid)... anyway... i tryed messing about with the motion pannal, but nothing seemed to fix the problem. ... .. i got desperate, so decided to post here hoping for further help... the suddgestion Maxer kindly gave in his/her last reply im having a great deal with trouble with. I will explain the current state of my "motion pannel" on a default boot into max 9 (or try to as the text description i can read as its going off the edge of the rollout) ... anyway When i open max... I create a sphere... and as explained max creates this at cords: 0.0.0. and unable to move. I goto the Motion panel : i roll out the "Assign controller" (please note when i put ** it means i cant read the rest as its gone off the edge of rollout) Under the "postion" sub rollout.. its now saying "Position: Path Co **" Within that the 3 sub rollouts are saying "Percent: Line **" "Bank Amount" "Smoothness" .. thats how my max looks now.. and please bear in mind, the only thing ive done is opened max, created a sphere, then went the the control pannel to see what the assigns say. Thats it... my max is unusable. i cant edit the properties of the assigns either, when i right click on one, and in the menu, the "properties" is always ghosted out. arrrghghghghg what im really miffed about here is the fact that max somehow, someway saved these motion assign controller setting and embedded into max`s configs... Im dead in the water here... can someone please help.. im in dire need of attention. Thanks Maxer again for your prompt reply and glad you managed to sort your end out. anyway best regards pan ps. sorry about my spellings
Pangaea
after thought.. you may be wondering why dont i just reinstall max or reset max via deleting the ini/cfg well, its the principle of it... i like to know why things happened and how if possible to fix it.. at least that way of thinking will make any further problems that more easy to identify and remedy. regards
RobNJ73
It looks as though a Path Constraint was made to be the default controller. All you have to do (theoretically) is go to the motion panel, and under "Assign Controller", click on position and open up the controller list. Select "Position XYZ" then click on "Make Default" (right next to "OK"). "Make Default" is so close to "OK" maybe you hit it once by accident? Pangaea
Sorted . For the benifit of others with the same or similar problem. I somehow managed to make "path constraint" default... must have clicked the "make deafult" butt within the assign position controller.. i noticed the little ">" before the path constraint, and saw the light. Anyway to fix it, simply open max, create anything, a box for example.. goto your motion pannel, goto assign postion controller, open up the pannel window ... select "position XYZ", and click "Make default" ... restart max and ur done.. thanks again to Maxer for the push in the right direction regards all pan (happy camper mode)
