Renderfarm Management = Qube ?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone using Qube for renderfarm management? I've heard it's an amazing alternative to backburner, but I want to know if it's overkill?

We are in the works of developing a server based renderfarm, what I didn't know is that we are working directly with IBM to develop a solution, nice thing is with IBM backing it and us "testing" we are getting a good cut on it.

The flipside is that I just found out we are talking with apple as well and evaluating the two to see which can provide us with a better hardware solution.

So I figured if we are going top of the line, we should do it right for a manager as well. If anyone has other suggestions to Qube I'm open to other ideas as well.

current considerations:

IBM JS22-> http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/bladecenter/hardware/servers/power.html

apple xServe-> http://www.apple.com/xserve/

pipeline Fx qube-> http://www.pipelinefx.com/index.cfm?page=overview&section=Products

We don't have the luxury of dedicated render nodes (just workstations overnight) but the other day our IT guy was saying that the recent IBM blades that they got in for servers have given them some much grief that the company has adopted a group wide policy to avoid IBM servers at all sites. I don't know what the issues were, but if do you get them, make sure you get their best support option!

Haven't looked at manager alternatives, but will do now. Sorry I can't be of more help.
