landrvr1
Well, we've just seen the umpteenth thread started about how Autodesk (or whatever vendor you can think of) is creating software that's going to force us all to find another line of work. Promises that renderings and animations will be so simple and easy, a 5 year old could do them. I for one welcome that future with open arms and a sigh of relief. With the way that technology and software keeps evolving, I think it's safe to say that 5 years from now we'll see pretty impressive Magic Render Buttons. It's a train. A train that's only going in one direction down the track: Easier. Faster. Better. More Automated. In 10 years how much better will it be? In 15 years? There will be a weeding out process. Those that rely on pure technical skills will be pushed further and further to the margins. Those with artistic talent and vision will remain and flourish. That's a good thing. That's the way it should be. That's the way the Lord intended. Having to spend so much time tweaking and adjusting software/hardware is a pain in the ass. I hate it. It's a necessary evil, but one that gets in the way of the real work. I believe in my artistic talent, and look forward to the day when I spend almost ZERO time fiddling with settings so I can concentrate on making my stuff as cool and creative as possible. manta
Yes well we've all heard that one before...when Maxwell was coming out, but that never came true, I see alot more sub-standard work done with maxwell than anything great...the fact is it doesn't matter if the render engine is unbiased or not it can still give you a bad render...so I think we'll have a really long wait to see the magic button... landrvr1
Heh. There will always be a bit of tweaking involved, but I remain optimistic. I suppose my point isn't so much that there will or will not be a Magic Render Button; but that if one actually arrives I'm going to welcome it with open arms - as opposed to fearing for my livelihood. Just think, though. 5 years from now. 5 software/hardware years. That's like 20 years in realtime, lol. If there isn't something like a Magic Render Button in that time, someone's going to get a butt-whoopin'.
Ernest Burden III
There will be a weeding out process. Lesson: don't be a weed.
