student visualization

Recommended Posts

Hi i'm a final year architecture student looking for some advice on how to improve my visualizations. attached is an image which i recently created for my graduation publication, the design is not complete so there are some areas such as the the box in to the top right hand corner of the building which have no depth to them. apart from this this, this visualization is about as high a standard as i am able to achieve at the moment so was wondering if anyone could give me their opinion on it and any tips to improve my images.

thanks for your time.

(i'm using microstation v8 dunno if this makes any differnece but just to let you know what package i'm using)

I would suggest, for the next one, that you try to use less textures and concentrate on lighting... Try to mix the texture with a certain amount of plain color, or even not use textures at all, and try to work more with lights, create interesting colors and shadows, etc... I think you would benefit much of trying that. Of course, I don't know how far microstation can go with lighting...

yeah i only used solar lighting for this so i think its a bit flat, microstation isn't the best for lighting but i'll hav a play with it. the timber plank i think just cos its a bit out of context in this shot it doesn't really fit but i think the main problem with it is that its too yellowso draws attention away from the rest of the image.

thanks for the comments

Hi Matt,

I too am in the final year of my architecture degree and am also working on my final presentation images. I was just about to post my image for some crits and saw your post.

I think that the overall composition of the image is really nice. As previously mentioned it is the textures that need the most tweaking. I would try to get the proportions of the brick textures correct as this presents a better sense of scale.

Personally i would model the interior of the projected box to create a sense of depth. I would also increase the saturation of the image behind as it looks a little too faded.

Work on the lighting too to get more contrast of light and dark areas.

Just about to post my image now so would be good to hear your thoughts.

Looking forward to seeing how you progress as it has the makings of a very nice image.
