taprice
I have the opportunity to change my job title where i work and wondered if any of you CG guys could help me out. My search has turned up nothing but 'Architectural Technician' was what I was hired as almost five years ago and now I model 99% of the time and thought a change was in order and the boss agreed. Thanks... [ October 18, 2002, 09:34 AM: Message edited by: taprice ]
kid
Architectural Modeller? or do you produce renderings and presentation graphics/artwork too, if so, then I guess you could be an Architectural Illustrator ??
STRAT
well i live in the uk and officially did 3 years architectural training over 10 years ago officially making me an architectural technician. but for the last 7 or 8 years i been doing architectural modelling and 3d stuff over actual technitian work. these days i title myself an Architectural Visualiser. as far as im awhare there isn't an official title of such, but who's to tell you anything different? my bosses quite happily accept this title and it's the title i use for clients and employers. Brian Cassil
This is an excellent question, one that I have had for years, and just the type of thing that I would hope we could reach a consensus on through CGarchitect.com. Baisically I handle all the visualization needs of our office which includes: creating quick massing studies, still renderings, photo-montaging, scanning, animation, video production, and most aspects of design presentation. Right now my card says "3D Illustrator". Everyone is getting new cards at the end of the year because of a merger we're going through so I would like to come up with a better title but I just can't think of what that would be either! One of the principals here would like me to call myself "graphics specialist". I hate any title that has the name "specialist" in it. If I get some help I wouldn't mind the title "visualization manager" or something like that but it may sound a little fancy, not sure on that one. But my real favorite would have to be "Darth Visualizader" [ October 18, 2002, 11:25 AM: Message edited by: Brian Cassil ]
nisus
Hi brian, I like strat's title 'architectural visualiser' because it's plain. If you're more into architectural design, you could call yourself a 'cgarchitect' rgds nisus

Suits me! Life just hits you with better than what you would expect... Looks to me like Strats' boss just defined the profession for everybody around here. Strat, tell him he already made some history with that title he gave you. Visualisation Artist... I like that... wish I was one too, but I'm "only an architect"... LOL. Who said that about a week ago...was it nuno faria? Hey Jeff we really need to have a "Quote of the week" corner somewhere in here. something to think about for CGA2. taprice
This has been a big help guys. I now have a list of nine different titles to go over and figure out which ones I like best. I would be nice for all of us to know what to call ourselves, before I just called myself a button pushing monkey...
Brian Cassil
I also like "Visualization Artist". That's tops on my list so far.
Christopher Nichols
We like to call ourselves Digital Designers. But really the best way to say it is "Visualization Specialist"
Jeff Mottle
We went through this a few yars back too. Back then, before the internet was big, we called ourselves rendering specialists. LOL! Once we got a feeling about what others were calling this profession we changed it to Visualisation Artist. If I do freelance work (ie not furniture) I call myself an architecural visualization artist. bigcahunak: Quote of the week huh....hope somebody else is going to come up with the quotes, 'cuz I'm quote challenged...you'd get things like "what comes up must come down" LOL

superdave
Most commanly used titles in my area are: 3d Design Architect- Architect that produces 3d 3d Design Specialist - 3d Artist, Graphic Artist Graphic Specialist - Graphic Designer 3d Designer - 3d conseptual artist - Animator Modeler This title does very quite a bit with the type of work you are involed in a day to day basis. But lets face it does it realy matter.
