SandmanNinja
Wonder if you convert them to True Type fonts? http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsi&cat_id=TypeDesignResources http://true-type-font.qarchive.org/

SandmanNinja
Well, one of those programs will do it as a batch job - all in one. You don't have time to double click a program and get all of your fonts? True Type is a native font format supported by Windows. I've never heard of Open Font. Jane Namenye
Not being able to use Open Type in max has been an annoyance to me for several years. This thread is the only discussion about this subject here (or even The Area). I guess nearly everyone must be converting their Open Type fonts to Truetype, and not worrying about it too much. Well, it's still annoying because Open Type has become more and more common and this is the format I get from designers all the time now. Yesterday, a friend who is a typesetting expert told me it is the standard because it has good compatibility between Windows, Mac and even Linux. (I guess you had to do graphic design in the 90's to appreciate this. Back then, opening a desktop publishing document in a different plaform resulted in unwanted changes like all your quotation marks turning into hyphens. It was a nightmare.) So overall it sounds like a good thing that is here to stay. So I would be happy if max just USED Open Type. And how about if max didn't need to be restarted to use a newly loaded font?! Antisthenes
having converted many mac/pc/open/true/postscript i can say conversion is well worth the time and effort
tsimon
The problem with conversion is that it can screw up some of the extended characters of a font, so you're never quite sure if you're getting the full range of what you paid for initially (which these days is usually in Open Type format). My understanding is that Open Type is the present (and future) of digital typography; it should be supported. That said, I usually convert type to outlines and then bring those into Max.
