Hi, I have 3ds Max 9 and Vray... I'm trying to render an animation over 2 machines but as the directories on the 2 machines are not identical i have to reaply ALL the textures again and make sure they are on the second machine. Is there a way of saving (embedding) all the textures to the file so i can open it on any machine with or without the texture files and its all ready to go? Would this be the same as baking the materials? I know it must be possible as i have some archinteriors which on any machine with the textures already applied?

Cheers

sounds like you simply need to re-point your max on the second machine to the revised location of the maps, as the location will be unavailable and so the maps will not display in the viewport.

to do this simply, in the utilities tab, under 'more', select the tool "bitmap/photometric paths" and click the 'edit resources' button - this brings up a dialog showing the location of all your materials in your scene. select (highlight) all your map locations you need to alter, then choose the '...' button next to the 'new path' input and point it at a folder with all your materials, then update all the maps with the 'set path' button.

this remaps the location off all the materials in the material editor, rather than just providing an alternative location to look for them as the map paths does.

if you are using backburner, there is an option "include maps", so that when the job is submitted it has all the maps for the render node.

If you are simply openning the file on the second machine, do what matt said.

You can also go to file-archive. that saves all the maps with the folder structure in a zip file.
