yushi
I happen to be a traveler 3dsmax user. I am now using a sony laptop which is terribly slow for renders. I was wondering if there is a hardware with some 4 or maybe more cpus inside and I could connect it somehow to my laptop and do the renders. I know It may seem like a dream.i was searching info for Apple Xserve(which seemed a good solution), but i couldn't find out if i can do all these with it. Any suggestions? regards

yushi
Wow.. this thing is quite extreme. but you see, I won't carry it everyday here and there( i doubt if anyone could!) the thing is that I want to keep my laptop(the one I have) and put this portable workstation at home and use it whenever I need it. then when I'm going to another city just take it with myself in plane.... the Xserve seemed to me the best choice but yet I don't know if it is usefull for me! thanks anyway
AJLynn
These things are fully absurd. Three hard drives and two video cards - and check out the graphic of the video card coolers. Twice as heavy as some other 17" options. Do yourself a favor and get something more normal. Have you seen what they're doing with Macbook Pros these days? One of those plus an inexpensive Core2 Quad minitower for a render node would cost the same and be far more practical. Of course, if you're seriously thinking about carting an Xserve around with you on a plane you don't seem to mind impractical, so you might as well buy the quad laptop. Dave Buchhofer
Might want to take a look at one of these http://us.shuttle.com/ConfigurePackage.aspx?package=SYG5-3300-G they can be pretty loud when running, but they'll fit in a carry on and leave room for a few pairs of unders. AJLynn
For when two 7950's aren't enough... To be fair, they did update their configuration page and the options are now 1x8800GTX, 2x8800GTX or 1xQuadro 1600
