phix95
Are there any books that go in depth into the materials? I usually do basic stuff (diffuse, bump). Making complex materials always confuses me. And please don't say the manual. Are those Bible books good for that?
alrawli
Sorry to say it but the help files in max are as good as the bibles. I tend to look for tutorials on the net rather than buying books to learn from, 90% of the time the books dont cover specific things in enough detail. Somewhere like tutorialized.com has quite a decent max tutorial section also cgtalk.com has a great max forum. Oh and they dont cost you anything Probably appeals to my frugal Scottish nature

SandmanNinja
Bri, I was gonna plug your site (again!), because you make just awesome tutorials, but I didn't want to be accused of favortism... Just got paid - gonna see what new tutorials I can get from you!
RobNJ73
Neil Blevins has a number of good, thorough material tutorials on his site. There is one in particular where he walks you through creating a procedural material for a reptilian tongue that might give you what you're looking for.
