Anyone here play Crysis?

I just got the game Friday after work (and a new 22-inch ViewSonic monitor!), and I woke up Saturday morning at 9am, ate a bowl of cereal, sat down, installed it, started playing it, and sensed some time passed, looked around, and saw it was midnight!

While I swore I'd never put a game on my 3DS machine, it sure goes a good job of tromping around the island!

Thanks to the 1-gig geforce 8800gt, I play it at 1600x1060 (or something like that), and it's smooth.

Fantastic graphics! That's a beautiful model of the nanosuit in the opening animation. I was hiding behind a concrete wall and I paused several times to study the texture - it's very detailed!

I can see why it's do-able to want to show off an ArchViz environment, but with the license fee (whatever it is, I'm sure it's outrageous) I don't think that's going to happen - unless you 'give' the crysis walk-thru away and bury your dev time elsewhere (with a wink and a nod).

I'm at the point in the game where I've just been put into a tank, and it's a bit different. I much prefer fighting in the jungle, balancing my time between cloak mode and prone-and-crawling to shooting stuff with my tank.

I think I got the initial "Let's go shoot stuff!" out of my system this weekend, and now I can jump back to archviz.

By the way, the 22-inch monitor is beautiful! I never really saw the need for a screen that big before, but it gives you the extra pixels to open up your rollouts and toolbars, as well as seeing more of your model/scene.

SandmanNinja,

I bought Crysis the day it was available for download. I've played and beaten it for times since then and i'm still hooked. I've never seen graphics so fluid and lifelike before in a game such as this.

I've been toying with the CryExporter tool that you can download and install for Max. I'm hoping to come up with a project or two that i can fully develop and export into the Sandbox editor so i can mosey around in 5D.

My computer wasn't a brute like some think it out to be (of course i'd have to convince my honey dearest that the reason why i wanted to drop 5K on a new machine was because of a $50 game {yeah right}) I'm still running a solid Dell Dimension 8400 P4 3.0 ghz with 3gb Ram. It's and oldie but still a goodie. Anyway, hopefully soon, i can shelve my boring stuff and get some action going in Sandbox!

:)

I can't believe I've just spent another 6 hours playing it. Geez... But what fun!

I'm floating around in some kind of zero-gee area now, "going against the flow".

I'd like to play with a workflow between Max and the Crysis engine, but just not enough hours in the day. Maybe one day...

Finished it last night! Busy with round no.2 hehe.

The physics are amazing, and the graphics almost too pretty. Sad about the ending though..

A friend of mine has been messing around with sandbox2 for a while now and the results are promising. (Can;t post link. Forum prohibits).

just googled upon this from another forum:

Thank you for your interest in CryENGINE 2. As you correctly

anticipated, any commercial use of our MOD SDK is strictly prohibited by

the EULA.

However, we will allow individual architects and engineers to purchase

seat licenses for this usage very soon. It will be many times more

costly than a program like 3ds, however, and most likely will only be

attractive to architects working on fairly large projects.

For larger teams of architects working on even larger developments, we

also will have a per-project pricing plan, but that will be handled

separately by our partner company ImagTP.

If either option is of interest to you, please let me know.

I have seen the figure of $10K floating about per licence..

yeah crysis is sick. I beat it a few weeks ago and started a second game on the next hardest level. the ending is kind of a let down. the graphics are unbelieable. It feels like two games in one though. the jungle is kind of seperate from the alien part. but I guess that 's the point (following the story line).

Side note, anyone ever play bioshock? graphics are just as sick and (for me anyway) slightly better only do to the true to life graphic design of the 1950's and the idea of art-deco under water is just cool, well in an architectural nerd kinda cool. reminds me of the movie, "the fountain head". plus the audio effects are the best I've ever heard.....beautiful yet errie at the same time.

In response to the SDK for a commercial license...I've heard rumor indicating the price for the Crytek Engine 2 to be around $200,000. It's amazing that they can charge that amount of money...let alone that a developer/firm would invest in it. I suppose if your a bigwig Sport shop like HOK and others, it might be worth while to write this into contracts for visualisation on multi-million dollar projects.
