jaycurly
Hi there, first timer posting here, so hoping there is someone who can give me some advice... I have a brand new computer 2.67 GHz, 3.25 GB RAM, thought it was going to solve all my problems I have had with VIZ crashing... And it did until this project. I am rendering with Vray and without fail half way through the render the program closes itself without any warning, this is a small render of only 1200 x 800 with Irradiance map set to low. My file is about 60mb in size. Has someone any suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated...
jaycurly
I also tried changing from DirectX to OpenGL which has solved problems in the past but that hasn't helped either... Any ideas?
magnuscarta
Try switching of your displacement under Global switches - this is usually the culprit. Also make try not to use area AA. Let me know if this helps
jaycurly
Thanks for your suggestions, I tried switching off displacement, but I still have the problem... And sorry to sound stupid, but I am not sure what you mean by area AA?
jaycurly
I just managed to render it by turning off my trees which I had in the scene, which means at this stage I will have to do a seperate render for my trees and end up having to do a dodgy match in Photoshop... So I am still definitely open to suggestions
magnuscarta
no problem. AA is AntiAliasing - you can find it under the Image sampler heading. Are you using vray Proxies for your trees? If not - this allows you to have a lot of geometry in the scene that is only loaded at rendering time. To make a proxy: Isolate your object (tree). Make sure it is a Poly or mesh object. Make sure noting is grouped. Attach everything together (Attach List) When attach options are displayed select Match Material ID's to material (first option) and make sure Condense Material ID's is on. Now exit the isolation mode - this is important - if you dont exit your scene will freeze on the following step. Select and right-click the object. Go down to Vray Mesh Export. Select where you wish to save the file, select Export as single file and and make sure Automatically Create Proxy is switched on. Click ok Your mesh should now be a proxy object. This allows you to have A LOT of geometry in your scene without mem issues since it will only be loaded in at render time. Remember you can make copies of your proxy but they should be instances. jaycurly
Thanks heaps, I won't get a chance to test all that out until tomorrow now, but will let you know how that goes then! Great!
k-ram
Hi Jay, in case you don't know Neil Blevins tips, have a read (neilblevins dot com) Note especially the articles "Why Is My File Crashing? A Short Essay On Reporting and Solving Bugs and Crashing Files" and "Reducing Memory Usage To Render A Memory Hungry Scene" You should also check if your pagefile is large enough. Good luck!
