aoibhneas
i'm buying a new workstation (3d max, autocad, photoshop) and am just about ready to order. In fact, was going to do it today. my spec looks like this: Intel Xeon E5440 (2.83GHz,1333FSB,2x6MB,Quad Core) Win xp prof x64 8GB DDR2 667 Quad Channel FBD Memory ........ etc. Now, the pc ships with a 512MB PCIe x16 nVidia Quadro FX 1700 (MRGA14L), Dual Monitor DVI or VGA Graphics Card which is included in the price. This reads on the NVidia site as a mid-range card. I read on another forum (the area) that the Geforce 9800 gtx was one of the best cards to get for max (performance/budget wise) but i also know that the Quadros are developed for 3d apps users and the GeForce more for gamers. I've also read that the 9800 is really noisy. should i order my pc with the quadro 1700 and then buy the Geforce 9800 separately, which is what i had planned to do. Or perhaps save up and buy a higher spec Quadro to put in later and forget about the Geforce. I am also sure i read that for using 3d max, the graphics card should support direct 3d. i've been googling and looking at benchmark sites but they don't really answer my question in black and white. i'm really confused about all of this. maybe someone can help? i would really appreciate it. cheers
AJLynn
I have a related question. I recently purchased a Mercedes Benz E-Class but I don't feel the standard V8 is fast enough. If I return it for one with the AMG V8 I'll knock about a second off my 0-60 time. Is this worthwhile or should I spend the money on a WRX as a second, all-weather car? aoibhneas
thanks! that answered my question. i haven't a clue about hardware and now i see i'm getting bogged down in the details and it doesn't make much of a difference either way.
