maxs
hi, i use the snowmaker script to make a winterscene. works quite fine, but icant`t manage it to get a higher snowaccumulation. all settings of the snowmaker out of bump do not influence anything, the only thing that really affects the snow ist the nr. of subdivisions of the object i make the snow from. but it doesnt affect the height of the snow! any advices? Horhe
Well I havent used the script but as its a bump map in there, it is somewhat an illusion and not actual height thus it wont create suc noticable height variations or any height as a matter of fact. Try using displacement instead. Ps. Looks like a noise map with some speckle in the bump slot. Edited May 12, 2008 by Horhe
maxs
thx for the reply horhe, i think i will try it with chamferbox, and then use a bump map on that.
nisus
Hi Maxs, Can you pls post a link to that snowmakerscript? I'm curious to see that work. Tnx. rgds, nisus
maxs
sure, but be warned that you will only manage a snowaccumulation of about 3-4cm with it. short desription of my experiences: the activity which has the biggest effect, when you work with this script is to subdivide the object you make the snow on before you operate the script - 20-40 subdiv.are good working values. for me the values in the script didn`t have any influence on the snow, out of the blurry ones. in the end i left them on default. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/snowmaker
Tim_Tam
An alternative to using snowmaker script would be using PFlow with Blobmesh. It doesn't require any subdivisions and adjusting thickness of accumulated snow is simply done by increasing particle size. If you use falloff map as density by material on your position object operator. You can very easily adjust the placement of your particles to your liking. blowback
Hello Tim Tam, I was wondering if you could explain a little more. I am having trouble setting up the p system 4 a heavy snowfall Edited July 21, 2008 by blowback

blowback
did anyone get the evermotion tut going? I'm still strugglin'
blowback
here is some popcorn / icing /cotton candy..... I could not get the evermotion tut to work ...... this is a particle system with the blobmesh .... It doesn't seem right 40000 particles ..... seems inefficient and tedious. It might work with a mix of the script & particle ...
Dave Buckley
yeh i got it to work but like it says in the tut, its really processor intensive and as soon as i upped the number of particles, max crashed instantly. if your struggling with any of the steps i don't mind helpin you out, just drop me an email daveb867@hotmail.com
blowback
thx Dave, The file is at home ..... but I will send you a couple questions later today when I get back to it. From what I can gather .... I think I need a better understanding of blob meshes and using those as particles. I like what I got, it just needs some work ....
Tim_Tam
I've been "out-of-order" few weeks due to slipped disk on my lower spine. If you still have trouble, I'll do a screencam video for you (later tonight or tomorrow). Rgds, Timo
blowback
Timo, That would be great. I got the tut to work but adjustments make the computer crash + it seems like a really fussy work flow, as in kinda sucks. Little room 4 error. so I got these results ...... but the adjustments to make it better crashed my comp. The house pic is my own work flow ..... that I think works better ..... but the particles kinda suck. (popcorn Styrofoam)
Tim_Tam
Hi there, I'll do that screencam for you, but it might not come tonight. I forgot that I had planned movie night with my friends - so it'll be around midnight that I get back home. So, if you don't hear from me tonight - the video will be here tomorrow morning. Rgds, Timo EDIT: Ps. Which version of max you're using ?

Tim_Tam
Had to make couple posts in order to post links ( 10 posts minimum ). Ok, didn't have time to create a screencam, but I'll create that when I have more than 15 minutes to spare. Here's a max2009 file and JPG of the resulting render. Open particle view and read the note called "READ ME" on the particle flow. Tim_Tam
Sorry about that... links work now. Had to change server - my "temp" server didn't seem to co-operate. Batman was brilliant ! Heath Ledger's performance as psychopathic villain is worth an oscar. Rgds, Timo
