iaga
Is there anyone that can advise me on workflows, lighting etc. for a decent interior shot. I currently use Viz2008 and VRay SP2 . I have the model setup already but I need to know how to work out good lighting techniques that I need help on. In addition do I need to sort out a clay render first before I start applying the materials? I have attached some test images of a college that I am working on - the white renders are just with VRAY GI and the interior has a few VRAY plane lights with a white override material. All help much appreciated.
tayrona
I started with vray, with following instructions, of course is just a begining.... global switches - disable default lights indirect ilumination - on Primary Bounces: Irradiance map / low preset /show direct light ON secundary bounces: qmc (at this point only windows are visible, and everything looks dark) Add a Vray light with similar size to the window. light must be inside the room, leaving a small gap. vray ligth properties: as default with following exceptions: activate: on invisible ignore light normals smooth surface shadows color: light bluish multiplier: 25 (at this point, light with look very strong and brighter as wished) to correct this: G-Buffer color mapping: color mapping type: exponential dark multiplier: 1.0 affect background: uncheck Add Sun light : Target direct above the roof pointing toward the window shadow type: vray shadow multiplier: 7-10 color: light yellow image sampler (antialiasing) adaptative subdivision -2 y 1 (fast, low quality) Min rate -1 max rate 2 (slow but better)

iaga
just one more question - what would you do about the ceiling? as it still remains slightly dark... Would you put additional VRAY lights or a plane light to cover the whole ceiling?
damienb
Hello Tayrona, Did you put some Vray environnement ? i'm triyng to make a interieur scène but it's look unrealistic. I put a directionnel light and one vray plane, but it's look flat not day light.
Ky Lane
Id lower the light values and up the color mapping exposure values. Set it to Exponential, and light/dark to 2.0 and drop the gamma down a bit for some nice contrast to say, 0.8? Give that a go.

tayrona
yes...... environment must be activated..... I like to use HDRI environments but if you are not familiar with hdris, just try activating the environment slot (sky and reflection) and use some sky color........ damienb
Thanks for your help. When i put a vray sun, vray ask me for a vray sky but this thing is a very burning light. So i don't think that it's the better solution. I will make some tests. thanks a lot.
