3d artist
Hi.............I have a great problem in using daylight with mental ray. please somebody help me. I created an exterior scene in 3dsmax8 and set a daylight with intensity value 1. I also enabled global illumination and final gather with default values. And in environment settings I select logarithmic exposure control.Another important thing is materials. Ya....... in materials also I applied only architectural materials. But finally it looks very shabby and patchy. Please help me to produce a photorealistic output. Please check my works and tell what will be mistake. In attachments, one image is with daylight and final gather. Another one is scanline with m area omni light. novelh
Try using the mR Daylight system. Then set your exposure to "mR photographic exposure control" and set it to outdoor daylight. Use Final Gather set to Draft and no GI at first. Try that and post your results.

SandmanNinja
vijaya, It's a lot EASIER to make photorealistic renders with the newer versions of Max and Mental Ray. There's A&D materials which have Ambient Occlusion built into them, and they just look better than the other materials. Heck, in Max 2009 there's Pro-Materials which are supposed to be even better (but I haven't seen it yet). I don't have any tips for you for Max 8.
