Jason Matthews
I have been messing around with a rendering of an office building for a few days now. The client wants an exterior rendering with daylight, blue sky, and artificial lighting if the interior and interesting architectural features of the building. I am using a skydome (inverted sphere mapped with hdri) for the environment. I guess my question is can anyone share their idea on how to do this? My main issue is that I cannot seam to balance the exterior lighting with the lit interior mainly because the glass is mirror-like. Here is a test render of the building. It is a bit dull but I do not have the materials yet from the client. Please ignore the sky as it has been changed. Thanks, Edited May 20, 2008 by Saturn Better quality image
Ky Lane
Set the reflections on the glass to fresnal, and set it to about 2. Might be a start.

Ky Lane
Looks much better, just up your contrasts under camera. Set it to exponential, and set light/dark to say 2... and gamm to 0.8.

RyanSpaulding
The image seems out of focus. Are you using DOF?
Dave Oliver
i would also have thought it would have to be a dusk image. i would check out some hdri photography for an idea. i have done that type of thing here was my result, unfortunately nastily photoshop stylized: http://www.midwestrender.com/gallery/images/night2.jpg
Jason Matthews
Dave5264, Unfortunately, I have been requested to use a blue sky and a certain direction of lighting. Thank you for your post though. I finally resolved the issues I was having and took a different approach. The camera angle, sun position, and blue sky were all requested and agreed on by the client. The only thing I could really alter was the post process. This is the first time I have ever rendered passes in Vray so it was a learning experience. The client liked it very much. The next round will be higher settings and a lot more info (cars, people, etc.). Please let me know what you think.
