Hello presentation, first post

Recommended Posts

Hi i am very glade to found this cgarchi dedicated web site

I hope it will be a long "affaire" with this community.

I present myself:

I am a french guy living in Ibague, Colombia, since one month !

I use to work in audiovisual industry in France.

But cause of the poor devellopment of this professional

branch where i am living actually.

I want to devellope my small knowledge in 3D ( only with Maya !! )

in this special direction that is architectural rendering.

In effect the most solid economical sector over there is

construction and architecture.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So as a very newbie, i will be very glad if somebody

could help me.

For example explain me what is the process, from a autocad plan

construct the 3D elevation of this plan. How can i do , using maya.

Also as i have not study architecture, i don't have any autucad or archicad file

If any one could send me one, just for exercise me to import and

make the elevation.

thank's

Which version of Maya do you use?

When importing CAD data, make sure the DirectConnect plugin is installed and loaded (Window>Settings/Preferences>Plug-in Manager) Tick the check-box for "DirectConnect.mll" to "Load" and "Auto load". While you're there, you may as well load "fbxmaya.mll".

Now you can import CAD-type files. As for learning Maya for visualisation, you need to concentrate on efficient modelling (NURBS, Sub-D and Poly), creating textures and shading networks, lighting techniques and rendering with mentalRay.

As for tutorials, the web is full of resources or if you prefer, the DVD's in this kit

http://www.digitaltutors.com/store/product.php?productid=2836&cat=72&page=1

will get you up to speed. Bear in mind though, that many of the principles in 3D apply to all programs, so you can learn quite a lot from discussions about 3DS Max and V-Ray, for example.

All the best,

S.

No, there can be 3D data in a CAD file. It all depends on what was exported from the CAD program in the first place.

As for free files, look for "DWG", "DXF", "IGES" or you could make a new thread in the CAD section of this site and ask if anyone could provide you with a simple CAD file to practice with.
