garethace
I am interested by the idea of a software that architects can use like a knapkin. Any of you who have studied much architecture design will possibly have come across this man before, along with the likes of Francis D.K. Ching and heavens preserve us, Fraser Reekie. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0393730409/qid%3D1015381705/sr%3D8-2/ref%3Dsr%5F8%5F3%5F2/103-8046935-3882220 I noticed a link to an architecture studio review at the front page today: http://www.cadenceweb.com/2003/0503/pr0503_archstudio.html After browing around cadenceweb review and site, i stumbled across another very interesting site, http://www.sketchup.com/ similar to Designworkshop/ Artfice community which i have enjoyed very much in the past. http://www.designcommunity.com/user_gallery.html You can see tonnes of training videos here, to get the idea of how the software is used: http://www.sketch3d.com/training_mac.php I noticed this interesting post at their user forum. http://www.sketch3d.com/forum/read.php?f=4&i=5246&t=5246 To open, I'd like to thank all who participate in this forum. A brilliantly intuitive piece of software has been rendered more approachable and more useful due to your input. I am, however, concerned about the quantity and frequency of posts which aspire to a Sketchup which is ever more "powerful" and "versatile". For our architectural office, the attraction of Sketchup was it's relative simplicity vs. other 3d modellers, including AutoCAD. We have found that $500, two toolbars, and one week of experimentation were sufficient to turn out concept renderings which trumped anything we had ever produced with AutoCAD.
