It supports both intel xeon processors and core2extreme procesors. i was wandering that did anyone use this motherboard bcoz it is beautiful board as shown on their website. Here it is: http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/D5400XS/index.htm I have checked my local market but they say that intel hasnt launched it yet. it is only available for trial bases. AJLynn
Basically the same as other dual Xeon boards but with stuff that comes on desktop boards like built in surround sound and SLI support. It's not going to do much more for you, as a workstation, than other dual Xeon boards, so if you want t buy a dual Xeon now just get what's already available. Note that to use dual Core 2 Extreme CPUs you need CPUs that support the LGA 771 socket (the more common Extreme chips are for the LGA 775 socket). Also, you still do need the expensive FBDIMM memory.
aligrafix
Sure you are true that i still need to install fully buffered memories. But still waiting about the price of this motherboard.I did go to intel's authorized dealer and they told me that this board may cost US$300-350. which is low cost but it cant be compesated by losing performance. i have experienced both Intel D975XBX2 and Intel DG33FB motherboard with core2duo processor E6700. The performance of 975 is much better than DG33.Well lets see what comes up. Thanks
Macer
It's been available since the end of Feburary. Not sure on US$ prices, but I paid 380 GBP for mine, about 30 pounds more than a similar spec supermicro.

Slinger
Macer is right...it has been out for a while....its the skulltrail board. http://www.guru3d.com/article/intel-skulltrail-platform-test/ And its not worth it!!!!
aligrafix
Many thanks Slinger. That page has much much enough information for me.How does macer or other user think about the performance of this motherboard. Like what happens after rendering process from 3D application or after heavy workload, the system takes time to come back or has rapid performance in rendering as well as closing time period after rendering process!!!! thanks
Slinger
lol, if you would of said skulltrail in beginning thread, I could of shown you to this review earlier The feedback on that mobo in the review, from my point of view, is it isnt worth spending the money on extreme edition chips and FBdimms for ram. Yes, it would be cool if the board could take (2) Q6600 or Q9450s but it won't....it is specific to the very highend cpus. For the price you would spend on teh mobo, 2 extreme edition cpus, 4gigs of FBdimm, you could make a small rendering farm I am sure.
aligrafix
I was wandering if i could install dual quad core cpus but the xeon quad core cpu E4550 @ 3.0 GHz, 12 MB Cache, 1333 FSB. This processor is $292 in my town. i hope that i could install 1 cpu today with 5400 XS and 2nd when i get enough money.Whereas server motherboards have price of $540 in my town and i will need other WTX casing with supply which is also $310 here. Therefore, I was thinking that i could save $310 but more amount will have to spent. If i purchase E5450 CPU, then what motherboard is best either from intel or asus within the range of $310? Thanks for posting comments and suggessions
AJLynn
Something's wrong here. How the heck do you get an E5450 for $292? I just looked it up and the best price Google finds for it is $885.
aligrafix
I went to local dealer in islamabad and confirmed about the price and i have seen it with my necked eyes and confirmed the approx price US$292-305. I am telling the truth.
AJLynn
I'm not saying you're not telling the truth, I'm saying it seems like something might be wrong in the supply chain. So to speak. Never mind, it's a very good price for something like that, probably good enough to compensate for the other parts being expensive.
