Living in UK..

Recommended Posts

Hi my friends..

It seems that I may have a chance to work in UK, but I want some information about living there, I just want to know how much one person must pay monthly to live a reasonable and moderate life, not very expensive, and not very low level also, some information about housing(what's the best solution for live?small appartment is the best solution?, food price(general idea)...and so on.

Also, how much it'll cost for a family (me+wife and one little daughter):)..just want to know if this will be possible in the future or not??

Ofcourse, I think every place can differ in prices, meaning London maybe high than other towns, don't know if I'm right? or wrong?

I need your help my friends ASAP, and turn the light for me:)

First...........living in the UK is currently very expensive. Food, housing, utilities etc have all gone up by a large amount in the last few years. I beleive we are about the most texed nation in the world at the moment.

For housing this can help for both purchases and rental price ideas:

And this may help with the price of food:

Hope this helps.

Ok, let's go to the opposite direction.. how much minimum money I must take monthly to live good life there??;)

You'll have to work that out for yourself, depending upon what you need.

The first web site will give you an idea of rental prices in Surrey (which is a large county with lots of cities, towns and villages). The second web site will give you an idea of food prices.

If you know where your planning to work and have no car, then start with rental prices in that town.

VERY expensive!

even though i studied and lived there a few years ago, i have gone back to visit regularly, and my last visit was last month, in which i was HORRIFIED with the prices!

I mean..you cant really get a ballpoint figure from any forum you'll ever visit, but just to give you an example, if you smoke, then youre screwed already! ;) a 10cigarrette pack of marlboro bought in a restaurant or pub in london will cost you 6pounds.. thats $12 for 10 cigarrettes!! lol

If your offer seems serious and you feel it has potential, i would urge you to get on a plane and go visit for yourself for a few days... it's the only way you can really get an idea according to you and your family's lifestyle.

I think the cost of living is probably highest in the South East corner of the country. Although the basics are going up and up it seems. £6 for ten fags is restaurant prices you'll get a pack of 20 for £6 here.

Ok, thanks again for your information, but I'll make it more simple and ask a direct question for anyone who live in England: Can I live reasonable live with £500? or it may cost more..£1000?... what's the minimum money should I spend? not specific number.. generally, I mean roughly..:)..very easy question, and needs very easy answer..;)

you cannot live reasonably in england on £500 or even £1000 per month take home.

if you want to get your own home (ie, a mortgage) in the UK then for a man in your position, without any financial support or backup, then i suspect it would be next to impossible. (although, i'm only assuming here as i dont know your financial background)

so the alternative is to rent. to get a 3 or 4 bedroom house or flat, furnished, in a decent condition in a decent area, could set you back in rent anything from £500 to 2-3K per month. and thats just rent. Add on living costs and utility costs (ie, council tax, electricity, water etc etc) then i suppose to get a comfortable life for you and your family you'd need to take home at least 2.5-3K plus per month. and thats just basic.

What these guys are saying is absolutely true - living in the UK is sooooooo expensive at the moment. ridiculously expensive. you can live for a lot lower costs, but you'd be living close to poverty level. unless you have a rich family or background or a damn good top flight job to walk into then you're treading on thin ice i'm afraid.

Hi

Got to agree with the guys, if your talking 500/1000 a week then you stand a chance but you could still struggle especially at the lower end of those figures and have a family to support.

Dont forget that you will probably need private medical cover

The cost of living in the UK is constantley going up a bread loaf that cost 80p a year ago now costs £1.20 or more

Gas, electricity, petrol are always going up (Petrol £1.13 litre) and only the other day I read that gas is due for another massive leap over the summer.

To give you an example I live in the Midlands in a 3 bedroom house with a wife and kids, my monthley gas and electricity bill is £140, my council tax (Tax in addition to national tax, taken by the local authority) is £120 month I work 20 miles away from home and it costs me around £250-£300 month in petrol (including running around on family stuff

Not trying to put you off but you need to get as much as you can and do your figures, look at the housing sites . All of the rented properties will require what they call bonds (a cash deposit against damage) on top of at least 1 months rent up front.

Heres a link to a supermarket comparison site to give you an idear on food prices

Hope this helps

Yea surrey is expensive.

If u are looking to move over to work as a visualiser with your wife and child, then I reckon you wouldnt be able to live a comfortable life if you were earning anything below £28k a year

Rent and bills will eat up around 1/2 of your monthly salary and transport is just a joke.
