SSPEIPER
Hi all, im new here abd just though id post a few pics of the progress of one of our projects and hopefully get some c&c Im using Rhino 3.0 with Flamingo renderer at our firm here in Melbourne. Its a bit outdated now I realise but im hoping to convince my boss to upgrade to bigger and better software... Most likely getting Rhino 4.0 and Vray ??? Anyhow - here are a few images of one of many current jobs im running. The residence is located in Maputo, Mozambique and is for the future President - Samora Machel jnr... The brief was to have a residence that can be shut off into seperate residences for guests + dignitaries etc... So essentially each floor has its own kitchen and 11 bedroom throughout...!!! SSPEIPER
And I am aware that repetitious textures look dodgy, but im getting better. That and the further out you zoom the more you dont want it to come out like a pattern. The sandstone tiles are from taking photos at my girlfriends place and then cutting out each individual tile - then pieced them together in photoshop and it came out pretty good i think. I just think a software upgrade would make a huge improvement - and the lighting and tree database i have in Flamingo is looking dated when i compare it to what ive seen being done nowadays... AJLynn
Not meaning any offense, but I think for the president you hire a very good consultant to do the renders - it's going to take you too long to develop the skill set to do renders of that quality for you to use them on a current project. That's what I'd do.
SSPEIPER
No offence taken ... To be honest - with better software and renderer and a better database of textures behind me I know I can achieve tip-top images... But that is for our director to decide... And we are outsourcing for larger projects which would take forever to do with what ive got at hand... Frankly I want to put my fist through the screen sometimes due to the fact that my boss is a bit old fashioned and needs to open his wallet and get the right gear... PS. just noticed that the pics I attached are a little burry...!!! Just a quick question... How long have most experienced modellers been doing this...? ive really only started about 12 months ago and im hooked... but want to get out on the antequated looking rendering... I know its a never-ending process, that is learning. Edited May 29, 2008 by SSPEIPER
Horhe
Just exactly who is the President of Mozambique? I need a refill in my political education. I know nothing about Flamingo but it seems that your GI solutions is currently set off (I presume it can calculate GI). Ps. Sspeiper , I hope your boss doesnt read threads here Edited May 29, 2008 by Horhe

SSPEIPER
Haha, No - the residence is for Samora Machel jnr... the next to be president... His father was Samora Machel snr. who was killed in a plane crash in 1986 - although its a conspiracy as to whether the South Africans caused the crash. So in other words - Assassination!!! And I work for a South African based architecture firm....go figure...

Horhe
Sorry as were on track here I thought Id post this : Mozambique's former president, Joaquim Chissano, has been announced as the winner of the $5 million Ibrahim prize for African governance, which Passport wrote about last month. Chissano, who governed Mozambique for 19 years, played a crucial role in his country's transition from colonial rule, helped usher in political and economic reforms, and negotiated an end to 16 years of civil war. Perhaps most crucially, he stepped down voluntarily at the end of his term despite overwhelming popular support. His Ibrahim prize money could actually end up amounting to quite a bit more than $5 million, since Chissano will receive $500,000 per year for the next ten years and then $200,000 per year for the rest of his life. Itll never hurt to learn some politics here
AJLynn
You know, now that you mention it I got some email about this a while back: "DEAR SIR. My name is MACHEL JR and my father, MATCHEL SNR. is late President of Mozambique. When my father died under mysterious circumstances he left to me his accounts in the amount of USD $23,076,198.34 EXACTLY. I require the assistance of an AMERICAN to move funds from my country into EUROPEAN bank account. I require FIVE RENDERINGS EXACTLY of my new residence at A4 SIZE. ..." gfa2
Ps. Sspeiper , I hope your boss doesnt read threads here I was thinking the same thing...I'm wondering if these images should even be posted on a public web page. I do a lot of renderings for government and military work and would never dream of posting them here.
Eric
A suggestion - be resourceful. I have an almost impossible time getting my boss to purchase libraries and such. Spend more time on the forums - you'll find people giving away stuff for free that they've created (particularly on Evermotion). I've been away from the forums for a while, but am trying to get back up to speed. Others may be able to comment on additional free sources of quality models. Do you own a digital camera? Go outside and photograph the sky, and composite it into your rendering in post-processing. Ditch the 3D people, and photoshop in a real person. If you want, use the 3D model to cast the shadow, and render another image with the person turned off. Blend the two so your photographed person will have a nice shadow. Don't have good materials? Again, the forums. People are always posting their high-resolution maps. If you can't find something, go outside and photograph it yourself. Google is also an excellent source for materials. The 3d vehicle store that was recently listed in the news section - they have a free vehicle to test their quality with. I don't know the licensing restrictions, but you can always find stuff like that if you have nothing else available to you. Do whatever you can to increase the quality of your output, and your boss may be more willing to pay for the good stuff - better libraries. And I have to agree with the previous comments about whether or not this should be posted. Are you sure it's acceptable to display those images? I doubt my president would want me posting renderings of his daughter's future house - not that I'd ever be asked to work on a project of that scale/prestige. SSPEIPER
I was asked to post them here for critique... So there is no problem - and as is there will be changes and alot of the security stuff is not shown, or will be implemented later. As for a library of models e.g. - cars, people, textures etc... I have heaps already from what ive got in the last 12 - 18 months. The thing is that using an older program and renderer obviously shows its limitations... ive briefly used 3ds Max and also Maya and they seem to be more awkward to use that Rhino. Rhino is extremely easy - I just need a cutting edge version with Vray and ill be killing it... hopefully...
