Ivan_m
Is there way more than one person to work on single scene? For example - a big office building with with surrounding area?
AJLynn
Not on a single file, at the same time. But if you divide the work, say into multiple Max files and use Xrefs, that could work.
Jeff Mottle
You can't work concurrently on the same file, but Alienbrain can help with with the management of the xrefs and multiple files etc: http://www.softimage.com/products/alienbrain/
LukeC
Like has been said before, xrefs are useful to divide up work. It is also helpful to keep large scenes easier to work on, as your only working on part of it. You can set xrefs to automatically update when saved, so you can see the changes on the fly if thats what your after
Antisthenes
it would be nice to see the technology behind multi-touch and multi-player gaming added to a 3d production package.
rhizome
maybe.. just maybe.... one day all apps with work like google docs in case you haven't used it. multiple people can work in 1 document at the same time and it manages all the changes. works very well for collaboration. here is a funny video from google (just kidding, i tried 3 time to post the link but im not 10 post yet. if you are interested google the phrase google docs) my 2 cents
I.Mitov
Thanks for the replies. I was just wondering if there was a way or an add-on or something. It seem we should just wait some time for the technology to develop. Till then - Xrefs.
AJLynn
If the alternative is "Save To Central" I'd rather they keep it as is.
I.Mitov
I am using Xrefs right now but noticed that the automatic update feature in Max 2008 doesn't work right. When I enable it it just works for the first save of the referenced file. After that I must update it automatically to see changes. I did an experiment in the older Max 9 to see if situation is the same and it prooved that automatic update works as it should be. EDIT: Nope. 3ds max 9 is the same story. It doesn' autoupdate either. :/ Edited May 30, 2008 by I.Mitov
