jorisAR
Hey all, For a project, I need to create some 3ds objects and import them into openGL. Creating the 3ds objects is fine. Importing them into openGL is fine as well. However, the problem is that the textures aren't "linked" to the 3ds file let's say. Now, I've heard that you have to unwrap it with UVW. I haven't done this before, so I do not know what to do. It's rather simple, it's just a small painting I made. But ye, it's just white when I load it in openGL, because it can't link the textures. Is there any easy way to do this? Basically I just need a 3ds file, and a texture file, bmp or tga. Sorry if this has been asked already, but couldn't really find it. Thanks in advance, Joris
alrawli
You dont need to unwrap textures to export them with a 3ds. The problem with 3ds is it only supports 8 character filenames. This can be a bit of a problem as all texture map names and hard drive folder locations can only be 8 characters long. Ive recently had to export a few things as 3ds with textures and the way i got it to work was this. Made a folder on the C drive ( name less than 8 characters ) then used this folder to hold all the textures for the model ( again all names less than 8 characters ) I then exported the 3ds to this folder. If it doesnt work try having the folder name and the texture name less than 8 characters combinded cant remember the if i maybe did that aswell.
