Dont worry, ur renders take 8 mins to render but the textures stuffed up, and i managed to get it to render at 10 mins with better textures. Any other way to cut down with the global switches?

try any, for exteriors, that comes along with the max program.

go to:

C:\Programs\Autodesk\3ds Max 9\maps\HDRs

just remember to try different hdr angles & flips....

add the hdr to your mat editor,,any slot, then simply drag it to your "enviroment "reflection/refraction slot"....check it first to allow you to drag

edit: google for hdr´s ...they are tens of them free in the net

try not to use "slow" vray mats....I saw the ones u did use and there are nice, but very slow..again, check the render speed when downlaoding vraymat from vraymaterials.de

no way to cut on speed, if you want an ok render quality, after the setup u did receive from me unfortunatelly....you file is WAY too big for fast renders!

Thnaks anyways. Im rendering atm at 550x431 with 180 frames and is taking 5 mins a frame which is very good. I turned of GI caustics as well (reflective and refractive) and increased the noise threshold from 0.001 to 0.01. It still looks quite good apart from the aluminium which is a bit noisy but expected and the cog doesnt look as good in previous renders but is probably good enough.. Is it ok if i post a few frames just to see your opinion once its done?

I haven't really been keeping up with this thread, but did you read this?

http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150R1/tutorials_anim.htm

The flickering is unacceptable IMHO. Keep trying.

indeed, lots of flickering, unfortunatelly Mick

nice tip Joseph....never tried before :o

however, the main problem is the size of the mechanic (polygone count) vs animation frame size and I beleive you did good Mick by making an animation out of that huge poligoned mechanical part, in such conditions ;)

there are several ways to correct the flickering of that animation, besides the tutorial solution, but any other would have taken years to animate.

....again, I hope you learn a bit more about max & vray mick...I did.

NEVER TRY TO ANIMATE A ONE MILLION POLYGONE ESCENE UNLESS YOU GOT GREAT EQUIPMENT...AND THE RIGTH KNOWLEDGE! :)

kind regards....Eric
