Tommy L
Anyone know of a good resource for explaining the fundamentals and techniques of multipass rendering? I work with a guy who is a whiz on photoshop and it would be great for me to be able to harness his talents for post production work. I find that Im clumsy with PS and dont use a tablet well. This guy could really be a boost but he doesnt know the way render engines work. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom.
AJLynn
The 3dfluff.com video on interior rendering talk about Photoshopping a multipass rendering. It's a few years old - actually kind of funny, now that I think about it, because it talks about things like using Photoshop hand techniques to remove artifacting from you GI layer as a time-saving alternative to using GI settings that don't give you giant splotches. Which I'm sure was true before multicore PCs were normal.
Tommy L
Could be helpful. Im also thinking of getting this guy going on AE. Seems his PS skills are awesome but mis-directed. PS is getting to the point where you expect those skills in most artists as a standard. You know 3d so you should know PS. However, the reverse is not applicable as 3d takes FOREVER to learn from scratch to expert. In both AE and PS this guys artistic, color and composition skills would transfer well to doing most of my post work. Just not sure where to start teaching him! Thanks, Tom. BTW, I cant find the 3dfluff video tutorial you mentioned. Edited June 4, 2008 by Tommy L
Scott Erstad
http://area.autodesk.com/index.php/tutorials/tutorial_index/exterior_scenes_part_4_rendering_and_post/ A tutorial from Neoscape, which is basically one look at how lots of folks do both stills and animations. As a a guy who regularly relies upon post to *perfect* my imagery, this caught my eye. Your man should be able to capitalize immediately. You set up a render to render elements, the new Max09 has some nice sets that you simply select and go. This allows for easier & precise selections in PS. With a little net rendering, should be a snap. Let me know if this is helpful. Regards, Edited June 6, 2008 by scotty sp
shaneis
If he's already proficient in Photoshop, I'm assuming he only needs to be brought up to date with digital post techniques. This will get him rolling along (make sure you watch it too : http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/dpa01.html You could also look in to starting him on something like Nuke, Combustion or Shake.
