Crazy Homeless Guy
Does anyone have book recommendations that deal with Mental Ray 3.6? (max2009)
illegalalieninbeijing
Hi. Unless you are looking for a book that deals with the standalone version - I 'm just learning about it. Brian Smith authored a book and is coming out at the end of July: 3ds Max 2009 Architectural Visualization Intermediate to Advanced for more information, checkout this link: http://www.3dats.com/products.asp I'm guessing it also covers Mental Ray 3.6 since Mental Ray it is an integral part of 3DS Max. Perhaps we should ask Brian Smith. I'm getting one for myself soon.
Crazy Homeless Guy
I have that one on order already. I am looking for a thorough book on Mental Ray, preferably 3.6, but 3.5 will do also. Maybe no one has had time to publish one yet.
odouble
Rendering with Mental Ray and 3ds max is a good book. It is based on 3.5 ad max 2008 but you should be all set because it covers the A&D materials. There are the new Pro Materials in Max 2009 with 3.6 but that's straight forward once you understand how to use the A&D materials. illegalalieninbeijing
Great links odouble. I really enjoyed reading and practicing the examples in Realistic Architectural Visualization with 3ds Max and mental ray. Here's something I came across this morning: Mental ray per Autodesk 3ds Max e Autodesk VIZ found at http://www.educational.am4.it/Pagine/Catalogo/Scheda.asp?Libro=3. Sad things is, it is in italian. Would anybody knows if there is an english translation of it?

I found this link sometime back too... bummer The main concepts to understand in the renderer have not changed so you should be fine with what you have now (they are actually a lot easier now) + anything confusing about 3.6 can easily be answered on this forum. Here's a link to Rendering with mental ray site. It has some cool tutorials too. http://masteringmentalray.surpass.nl/
