mattclinch
any F1 fans out there? it was last years most watched sporting event worldwide...so im guessing a few. anyone else as disappointed as me to watch Hamilton park his car in the back of Raikkonen's like a white van man talking on his phone on the M25? shocker... so pleased for Kuibca though - that has been brewing for a while now. neko
F1 as a sport is, unfortunately, not what it used to be. in the days of senna, prost, mansell, piquet it was a terrific sport with great personalities, conflicts, technology and innovation. in the late 90's after the championships of villeneuve and the reign of shumacher, it went serious downhill fast. i used to get up at 4:00am to watch some races live....probably never missed a race in over ten years. even went to the canadian GP twice (great live experience) sadly, i find the sport completely void of the same things that used to make it so great. i won't even waste the smallest amount of my time watching it anymore. it's a mobile, developing world cigarette advertising show now. neko
and one more thing - it is now a sport owned and controlled by one man (bernie ecclestone) who installs a kinky, fascist yes-man in max mosley to be the figurehead of the sport. great leadership. I'm not a sports fan, but i love my F1. Well i did up until a year or 3 ago. In the days of Senna, Prost, Mansell (and even Schewy and Hill more recently) etc etc things were really exciting. Fast cars, brute force qualifying, breakneck speeds on slicks etc... so so exciting to watch. but in recent years we've got this convoluted strange qualifying session split into 3 rounds (wtf???), engine change/tweak rules, tyre rules etc etc it's all gone very mundane and boring for the viewer. I've been an avid F1 fan for 20 years or so, but these days it doesn't bother me if i miss a race or catch up with the highlights later on. I've lost all enthusiasm for it. I wont even watch qually any more. I'll make a point of watching the monico and british gp for the full weekend, but even then, take it or leave it really. great shame. neko
it's incredible to think how a sport could lose it's way so badly as to turn off millions of passionate, loyal fans so comprehensively. clearly they don't really care or need our support... it isn't made for us to enjoy anymore. if a newer generation enjoys it, so be it, but it really is a hollow shell of the sport it used to be. i now sound officially old and like my grandfather. mattclinch
I have to disagree guys. The 2007 season was genius. I agree that the two or three previous to it were processional and boring, but the lack of track control has really livened up the racing, and the whole grid has been turned on its head as a few of the new young guns really get to grips with the lack of traction control. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1058490/f1_2007_season_review/ And Monaco and Canada this season have easily been two of the best races i've ever watched, since Hill took the title in 1996 in Japan. WAcky
Lol yeah this season is worth watching now. No traction control so Miss Hamilton needs to learn how to drive his car properly. The only thing is we get the broadcast at midnight and the Canadian GP was on at 3am!!!? Heard it was a ripper of a race tho.
kris McIsaac
I went to last years Australian GP and really enjoyed it. I dont get up in the middle of the night to watch but I do keep an eye on it. It really is good live standing a few meters away from the track on a 6th to 2nd down change corner feeling the backfire hit you in the guts. Still it is 100 times better actually getting into a race car rather than watching them, even if it is only half as fast as the F1's. I am glad it is not a 1 (prancing) horse race any more. I walked past the local Ferrari shw room yesterday. I think they are still cleaning my drool of the windows.
