WIP - Stone Structure (for lack of a better word)

Max 2009 with Mental Ray's Daylight system

This is an exercise in texturing and lighting, so any comments would be appreciated.

Looking at the Daytime render, it looks like I'm getting Light Leaks at some of the corners and edges. My sampling radius is 100mm and I'm using Max 2009's Daylight system. I didn't think the mrSun attenuated - can it be too close to the building?

Thanking you...

Hey Joel,

I reckon your nighttime one could be much improved with some more punchy lighting - it just looks flat and grey at the moment. I dont see what the area lights you have in there are contributing.

Id up your environment to more of a blue and make it alot stronger, then use accent spotlights up the columns or some warm soft downlighting back in the upper archways.

Tunde - Yeah, that's how the instructor was teaching this particular lesson. But then he continues by saying he's never done photons. :( From the lessons that I've done via video tutorials, I thought photons would give you a quicker render than just FG alone.

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated.

Nic - Good ideas, thanks.

I've turned on decay and cranked the multiplier up on the secondary lights in the rooms upstairs and in the archways. I think, after reading your suggestion, I'll adjust the mrSky Advanced Parameters -> Non-Physical Tuning -> Red/Blue Tint, and give it -0.25 or -0.5, trying to simulate moonlight. I'll re-render and post the results from that. And yes, more lights in the scene. When I read your description for the column lights, I'm reminded of the lights in Egypt, lighting up the ruins at night.

Thanks guys
