CONSTRUCTION exterior plywood advice

Hi all, been a while. :D

I am involved with a project where we are looking to use plywood as an exterior finished product. We are hoping to use mahogony plywood stained to a warm finish.

Any experience with this type of application?

Here are a couple of links of examples:

Paul,

Went to work for Winters huh? They do some real quality design, from what I've seen.

If you are looking for plywood / systems info call Alpine Plywood out on silver spring & 124th. Most likely can give you the fastening, plywood types solid cores, pretreatment, glues for systems and so on.

Recomendations on finishes for longenveity. As far as finishes and top coats; I would lean towards a catalyzed or epoxy finish if possible.

Flashing, edge treatment, and sealing of fastners, obviously will be critical in our climate.

If you need a sub to install and or create give me a call. I specialize in the off the beaten path stuff.

Well thats my 2 cents on the subject. Good luck at Winters!!!!!

Hey! I used to work at Winter's Design Group while I was in Grad School, say HI to everyone. Have you looked at synthetics like Richlite? You can get in wood tones, and it's virtually indestructable (it's used a lot in skateboard parks) and doesn't have any moisture issues.

Cheers!

Thx guys for the info.

William, that info for the plywood is something I’ll give a try. They are right up the street from us, probably about ten minutes out.

Vince, I have looked at some composite products. So far I have looked at ‘Trespa’ and another product called ‘PARKLEX 1000’.

This latter product looks very promising, and I am pursuing the manufacturer for pricing and swatch samples. The ‘Skatelite’ looks interesting because of the beating it can take and the plywood appearance. Thank you for the info on that as well.

It’s funny that both of you know of Winter’s. They are geared well to my architectural taste of modern & contemporary styles, and are one of the higher-end firms in the area here, so I am hopeful that things will go well here.

Vince, I’ll say hi to everyone here for you. Did you work with Bill while you were here?

Best,

Paul
