New to the Boards!

Hi, Im new to the boards and I must say I'm really loving it. Ive already learned several new methods to accomplish my modeling/rendering goals thanks to most of you. I use Rhinio 4 mainly to model architectural models and Vray for Rhino to render. I however, need your help in regards to some modeling questions.

Im somewhat of a neophyte when it comes to modeling and practically ignorant when it comes to rendering, but I'm kind of teaching myself with the help of this forum and tutorials so please try and bear with me.

My current project is a mediterranean 2 story house and I was wondering if some of you may help me with some issues I was concerned with.

Railing

How can I do some sort of iron railing template? Its proven to be quite difficult since i dont know most of the commands. (not as complex as the image below but you get the idea)

Modeling the Roof

The roof is a Mansard roof and I've developed the roof plan for it. How do you guys model lets say a pitched roof from a plan?

Trims/Moldings

How are the moldings and trims done? For example around windows and cornice pieces (an example shown below).

If you would be so kind, Im simply asking for the command that would work especially well with each dilemma, and maybe even a brief explanation of how to use the command (even though i can most likely look it up in the help files which have proven to be very helpful). Any additional information will also be much appreciated as I am aware that this forum is not as popular in comparison to the others (i.e. 3dmax).

Anyway, thanks guys! And again, this community has proven to be quite friendly and constructive, so youll probably be seeing me around more often!

:D

Welcome!

if a pitch is 4:12 draw one line 4 one line 12 and a line between them and extrude a surface from that line then trim it based on the roof plan lines after you scale it 1d bigger than them

for that trim think sweep1rail

for the railing if you have the 2d just solid extrude planar curve on it, making sure they are closed curves, and sweep a profile for that top part.

there are many ways to do a model with different methods these are just one suggestion

using PictureFrame command to use those images as reference to create the initial curves will also help, i don't know how much you know but you choose great tools that i have too

post a zip file of your 3dm if you get stumped and i am sure many incl. me can help:rolleyes:

Welcome Harry. Looks like Jonas has covered all the bases.

For roofs, it is extremely easy to create them from 2d elevations using the ExtrudeCrv command.

For the trim, get the moulding profile and the rail path from cadd if you can and as Jonas said, use Sweep1.

wow guys, this sweep1 tool just cut my workload by at least 1/2. Thanks so much!

The thing is, I know the basic commands such as extrudecrv, trim, split, rotate, copy etc., its just that i need sit and learn the shortcuts that make more complex shapes possible.
