Brute Guy
Hi, I'm using Vray with Max2008 and am having some problems with some chrome in my scene. I have assigned a flat surface with a simple chrome material, and when the scene renders out, the reflection you can see in the chrome (the noise bumped material) appears extremely facceted. See the picture. Does anybody have any suggestions as to why this might be happening? Thanks Marc
Tommy L
It may be the smoothing groups? Try clearing the smoothing groups at the sub-object level.
STRAT
are you using vray with light cache for a lighting bounce?
Brute Guy
Yes, using Vray with geometry imported from Rhino, I don't know much about smoothing groups as it is a feature I seldom use, here is a screen grab of my GI settings, Thanks for your replys Marc
Stephen Thomas
The facets are in fact the areas sampled by your irradiance map. The reflection areas seem to be getting sampled less or not smoothed out or something, not sure why. Try upping your irradiance map settings and see if this affects it.
