It's a newish concept in that all of the objects on the site are direct from the manufacturer, including all scale, and all other information pertaining to the product. The site is still in Beta and there are MANY bugs to work out. I would like to know what people think regarding the objects and use for projects. Does anyone have any particular vendors they would prefer to see on the site? Do you have any general suggestions to make this site better? Also, thanks to another thread on the subject, as of July 1st, there will be a guest user account users can use without registering first to see the galleries. Again, all feedback is appreciated. Brian Cassil Posted June 30, 2008 Share Posted June 30, 2008 So, are you (or people that work with you) modeling these things yourself or are you creating a concise collection of available models that already exist? If the latter then there are some dubious legal issues you would have to deal with. If the former that this would be something that so many people have tried before but I don't think anyone has gotten quite right yet. I have encountered several problems with other sites like this. One is that the models are not organized in a way that is easy for someone to find what they are looking for in terms of style. They are usually organized by type only which makes it very difficult when I'm looking for a traditional armchair and I have to weed through countless modern chairs. The other problem is there always seems to be way too many models of really wacky crazy cooky (the best I can use to describe the things I have seen) models and not nearly enough simple commonly used content. Also, quality is many times lacking. Usually not enough detail. It would sure be nice to have something that actually worked for furniture so good luck. There are some custom/bespoke pieces out there as well. Every object is individually linked to the corresponding manufacturer and the manufacturer's tech spechs are used. I admit that the gallery is not at its peak yet, far from it [content-wise] but the pieces that are up there are quite detailed. For more previse examples, check out the decorative hardware levers, faucet sets, and some of the ironwork. The renders on the site are literally 5 second 3DS renders without any mapping or textures applied. The actual pieces are high poly, high in detail. The site's backbone for now will be architectural hardware, lighting fixtures and ironwork. This is a painstaking process, as you can imagine the work that goes into each individual piece. Again each and every piece in our galleries are manufactured by the designated manufacturer. We also offer rapid prototyping services should you require it. From 3D design to resin sample, or bronze, or whatever you require the end piece in. BTW...you can sign in to the archi/deco part of the site using demo for both the username and password. Justin Hunt Posted June 30, 2008 Share Posted June 30, 2008 The best site I have come across for this type of thing is http://www.e-interiors.net Its mainly a resource for interior designers, there are 2D dwg as well as 3D dwg but not for everything. Its fairly well organised but it does help to know what you are after to help refin the searches. Only thing I dont like is it is very slow. The models are also from the manufature and are very good. For this type of thing to really work the backend database needs to be rock solid, making is easu and quick to find stuff.
