karolisbilz@yahoo.com
i'm going to buy a new pc for myself and was wandering if u guys could suggest any good productive and not skyhigh price pc specifications, like what graphics card, how many gigs of RAM whitch windows cause i think windows 64 doesn't support autocad etc. ....all replies will be very helpfull
AJLynn
XP64 supports several versions of AutoCAD. Which one do you use? Vista doesn't run Autodesk products more than a couple versions old... I think 2008 is supported but not 2007... I could be wrong. As for the specs, it depends a lot on your budget, but it's hard to go wrong with a Core 2 Quad box with 4GB RAM and a Geforce 8800 series. (Unless you run Revit - then it's very easy to go wrong with a Geforce and what you really want is a FireGL.)

Ky Lane
From all my research... quadro is SLIGHTLY better, like 5% better, however 200% the price which is rediculous. Get 2x8800GT(X) and SLi them together, would kick anything Quadro has and still cheaper.
karolisbilz@yahoo.com
and what about the heating problem with sliing the n together?
Ky Lane
Buy a $5 fan. *shrug* Im not aware of any "heating problem" personally. If you have a decent case, I doubt it will be an issue.
AJLynn
Right. If you want to use Revit you should not buy a Geforce card. A Quadro would work, a FireGL would be better. Ignore the people who tell you not to use a FireGL with Max - they're just wrong.
karolisbilz@yahoo.com
and what about firegl against quadrofx1700 in max or is it again apples against oranges and complicated as hell?
AJLynn
Depends which FireGL you're talking about. I already posted a sticky on this, and linked to this chart
karolisbilz@yahoo.com
about the one with aproximatly the same price tag
AJLynn
I don't know what this stuff costs in your area. Look it up, and cross reference the chart.
karolisbilz@yahoo.com
it doesn't matter how much it costs where just if quadrofx1700 cost where u live 500$ then firegl which costs aproximatly 500$ it would be in my country big difference betwean those
Slinger
i'm having the first offer and it look's like this procesot: intel core2quad q6700 2.66GHZ motherboard: Intel "bonetrail2" atx lga775 x 48 bulk graphics card: PNY QUADRO FX 560 PCIE 128M PRO VIDEO ED RAM: corsair 2x2GB DDR2 1066MHZ KIT CL5 DHX hard drive:2 x HDD desktop SEGATE Barracuda 7200.11 500GB i had a chat with my computer friend and he said it is gr8 pc ....but he's not architect and visualizator so he could not know smth u guys know, o....any critique would be very helpfull at this point, before i decided to buy itGet the Q6600...it is cheaper than the Q6700 and basically the exact same processor minus it running at 2.4ghz vs 2.6 of the Q6700. I would not buy a intel motherboard. There driver support simply sucks. Get a brand like Abit, Asus, Gigabyte, etc....a little research and you should find what you need. I highly recommend a mobo with the P35 chipset. I would not spend the money on a QuadroFX570...get a 8800series card. Your ram and hdd choice are fine. As far as the heatsink for cpu, I would recommend a after market one as intel's suck. I build my buddy a computer last week with a Q9450 and the dame fan they sent had a round heat surface contact....the damn thing does even cover the whole cpu like it should to dissipate heat transfer. i use a Tuniq Tower 120 but I overclock my Q6600 very heavily...most everyday people won't need this cpu heat sink and don't like the price it cost, but there are other makes out there that will work fine as well. Slinger
Swap the quadro for a 8800GTX, and either up the CPU speed, or get 2xquadcores...You can only run dual cpu's on a skulltrail board, which you need either the extreme edition cpus or Xeons, or you have to buy server boards, which require way over priced FBdimms....basically, not worth the cost to everyday users, unless you have enough money, you use for toilet paper. karolisbilz@yahoo.com
i don't know about Abit or mobo mainboards (i'll check'em out), but friend of mine (who knows a lot about stuff liek that, he works in a firm that takes car of other companies computers, servers etc.) and he said that gigabite mainboards are nothing but trouble and recomended me Asus, but he said that it is way more expensive that Intel....so it kind of made me go Intel....for the CPU cooling i'm getting an additional ZALMAN fan...and again no1 said anything about gfx card 9800gtx?
AJLynn
Asus boards are excellent, and not necessarily more expensive. For example, the Intel MB you spec'ed is actually very expensive, coming at at $249.99 USD on Newegg. An equivalent (but better for the tweaking crowd) Asus board would be a P5E Deluxe at $219.99. Of course, you don't even need to spend that - if you got a P5K-E at $149.99 I'm 95% sure you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. As for the Geforce card, you already have several of our opinions.
karolisbilz@yahoo.com
yeah....the problem is that i still cannot decide which card to choose...everything else seems to go fine with tweaking the specs for my new machine. i mean the coments and suggestions look more simple.....but what goes gfx card is "wooouuw who? what? where?" 1000 addvices and 0 clearness....maybe it's my dumbass that cannot undestand them lol.....whatever thnx for all the help and coments....realy appriciate it... AJLynn
Did you read my sticky thread and the charts it linked to? If none of that made up your mind, then it's really not important what you choose.
