A question on shade and lighting

Its me again. Well, Im confronted with yet another question and again I turn to you guys. When using Vray for Rhino i usually load the medium render map that the plugin comes with (if you guys know what im talkin about). This gives me a lighting option but doesnt cast a shadow. Usually when i make a directional light or a spotlight to work as the sun it bleeds surfaces and colors into eachother. (do I have to make more than one light? How do you decrease intensity?)

 

Can you guys offer some suggestions as to how you guys render light in reference to shade (i.e. coming for an overhang or eve?)

 

I guess I still have yet to learn Rhino 'lingo'.
