AJLynn
In Rhino there's an incredibly useful button called "contour". It takes whatever model part you've selected, an axis (let's say Z), a start point (let's say 0) and an interval (let's say 12") and creates a set of splines representing slices perpendicular to the Z axis, starting at 0, every 12 inches. Now I don't have Rhino but I really wish I could do this. Is it possible in Max?
Claudio Branch
Check out the Section Tool under Splines... it will do it.

Antisthenes
I've used this command to make parts a very cool preying mantis years ago in v1/2? the method is also used in the making of the supermodel nurbs head. now a days we have T-Splines and it makes what is possible so much more than the traditional patch. Sub-D on steroids but completely accurate to the math of the curves (not facets or segments ;p).

AJLynn
I'm pretty sure he's actually talking about Rhino and not Max.
