WAcky
Here is a new one I'm working on. Basically none of the colours or landscaping have been specified. I'm having a meeting with the architect tomorrow for the colour/material and landscaping specs. The development it's to go on in South Australia is going with a native theme so the landscaping will mostly be grasses and "architectural plants" There are quite a few small problems with it at the moment that will be fixed in the next render. I wanted to put a bit of attention into the roofing as i usually hate doing it and end up doing a crap job of roofing a house. There are still problems but im happy with the roofing so far. Im not sure if it's a plus or a minus but the developer wants plantation shutters behind all the windows. This saves me from doing any furnishing but then again it looks like I have skimped on the detail. Either way it saves me a lot of time. AO pass still needs alot of attention. C&C welcome! Thanks guys.
Stan Zaslavsky
hey james great detail on the orangy grass next to porch - works in really well. the building seems to sit a little unnaturally on the ground - i dont know if its work for later on merging the grass as well as the couple of stones which kind of just sit there and don't really look like part of the set. the paving around the driveway as well as your overall grass look fantastic - what kind of grass modifier are you using to make it look that well? cheers
Dave Buckley
any clues as to how you have done the larger areas of grass looks fantastic
WAcky
Thanks guys Stan: You're right about the house sitting on the grass strangely. I only roughened up the edges of the grass a little bit so the actual length of the grass is longer than the amount it overlaps the edges of the house. Well spotted. Dave & Stan: The grass is just a couple of pictures stitched together i took down at the local footy ground today. It was a bit overcast today so I might take some more shots on a sunny day to match the scenes lighting. Cheers, James
Dave Buckley
any chance on explain how you stitched the pics together and then added them to your render
WAcky
I rendered out an image with everything 100% black and the ground plane 100% white. This is used as a mask in photoshop. I then put one photo over the left section of grass and another photo over the right section of grass and applied the mask to both. I should have said that a bit clearer. Theyre not actually stitched, I'm just using two images, one in each section of ground. Hope it makes sense.

Dave Buckley
one quick question, did you leave lighting on when rendering out the mask or was it just black and white geometry? any special settings???? gamma output or anything so that i don't lose colour info, and what about the background
Dave Buckley
haha, just had a really quick attempt, i think i kind of got the idea, although a LOT more effort would need to go into it for a final render, that was just a really rough test. woohoo my first bit of compositing in 5 minutes any tips for making it look really good, other than more effort and time and a better grass image i did the black and white render thing, then saved the channel as a selection and used that as a mask on my grass layers??? is that what you were talkin about? Dave Buckley
and just used my initiative along witht clone stamp to make the building look as tho its sat a little more 'comfortably' on the grass?? would that be the correct method
WAcky
Thats pretty much the idea. I used the pixelate>crystalize filter to jagg up the edges.
