Why is this a bad thing?

They will have more money to put in to it.

It may be built in to max or autocad in the future, or even revit.

I wish autodesk, and bentley would just join and produce one BIM package.

Its a real pain to be fighting each other all the time.

Two heads are better than one.

It's bad because they have a tendency to either:

A. Make it a flagship Autodesk product (e.g. Maya)

B. Integrate it into an existing product (e.g. Lightscape)

C. Kill it (e.g. Lightscape)

Sometimes they do useful things, like jump on the FBX format and make it work correctly with their stuff, but their track record isn't very good and if Ecotect ends up as part of Revit, the options for software packages you can use decreases by one. Great for people who already use Revit, bad for people who don't.

I don't think they'll kill it. I don't think they'll integrate it exclusively into Revit either, they'd prefer to sell two separate products after all (and I reckon they know not everyone's buying the Revit hype, especially outside the States). They're in a buying frenzy at the moment, AEC and manufacturing, if it wasn't Autodesk it would just be whoever else had reached the top of the tree.
