sardesign
this may be an odd request, but does anyone know of the "preferred" method to model a piece of clothing in 3d studio max? i was thinking of taking a photograph of the item and then try to trace it and model it that way... the clothing is an undergarment so it isn't just as easy to make like a plain t-shirt. any help would be appreciated. thank you. WAcky
Theres a set of functions in max. Open up the tutorials help file scroll down and there is a section named "hair and cloth" with a tutorial on how to make clothes. There's also a video tutorial on how to make a fitted sheet using the same functions here.
nelpiper
In my opinion, the best method is using the GARMENT MAKER MODIFIER. Draw a spline with the shape you want the cloth to be. For example, if you want to have a table cloth, u would draw a rectangle or a circle and apply the garment maker modifier. The tutorial Wacky pointed out is pretty cool and will give a fair start. Cloth is quite complex with lots of parameters, so it's complex but you have a lot of control over the simulation. Watch the tutorials. Good luck.
