Rendering Software

This is actually a survey. Base on your experience which do you think produces a more realistic output when rendering, 3d studio max or Vue?

I have been using studio max and recently I have playing around with view. So far I really like the atmosphere created with Vue. I am still playing with it as of now.

vue, in my opinion, cant be beaten for realistic foliage, ie, plants, trees, bushes, grasses etc, and it's lighting atmospheres are superb, but, for non plant based rendering i wouldn't consider it as a renderer.

it's megga megga slow and buggy and crashy. it has great potential, but it's got a fair way to go yet imo.

Max is by far the more versatile and stable of the two, where Vue has an advantage is its ability to create almost unlimited amounts of animated foliage. Max combined with Vray proxies is probably the only other engine out there that could even get close in handling such large quantities of poly's. Vue falls short in almost every other area, it's interface is clunky, the materials although procedurally based are difficult to use because of all the sub menus, the render engine is painfully slow as STRAT has said and even on the highest setting may not produce very realistic results. Animation in the software is also difficult to achieve because of the screwy way you interface with the camera, but the biggest disadvantage is it's ability to import other 3D models into a scene and have them come in the right location and right scale. You also have to purchase additional render cow's if your doing animations, your copy only comes with 5 so if you have a large render farm it can get very expensive.
