moshenko
Hi, I have been discussing over the past few months the idea of a Toronto user group for "visualizers", for lack of a better term. I have observed the success of such groups in Boston and the UK recently and I would love to see the same sort of thing happen here in Toronto. Members from DesignStor (my company), Cicada Design Inc. and FutureBrand are on board for such a group and we have talked about holding regular meetings and events that would combine showcases, guest lectures and general shop talk. I think this is a great opportunity to build a real community and I'm excited about what we could potentially accomplish. So, if you are from the Toronto area and would like to participate - or at least hear about plans - please reply to this thread. I will follow up later on with details on our first meeting. Thanks! Reign
Hi, This sounds very interesting and I would like to participate. I've recently graduated from Ryerson University from the Architectural Science program and am currently working as a Building Science consultant. Although I'm not currently working within the visualization industry, I've always been involved with graphics as a hobby, and may potentially switch to visualization industry in the near future. I feel this may be a stepping stone towards that goal and look forward to the meetings. Great idea! Thanks
moshenko
That's great! I'm sure there are lots of people in similar positions to you and that's why we're interested in starting this group.
Bullet
A Toronto user group sounds great. I'm from Windsor and would like to attend whenever possible, would there be a web site set up that people can go to so they can be kept in the loop as to what is going on with the group? There is no website as of yet - in fact, there is little more than a strong desire to start this group at the moment! I will use this forum as a means of posting updated information about the first meeting, and we'll work things out from there.
Square Leaf
I think this is an incredible idea. It can be difficult to find an outlet for networking on a local level. I think this could lead to many people who would otherwise not get a chance to meet in the industry (or who are wanting to get into, but who don't know where to look) a chance to get together, share ideas, learn & chat with other like-minded people! I'm in!

blowback
Does it have to be all about the T dot? I am totally interested but I'm out west. How can I participate?
poesis
I think this is a great idea and long overdue. Thanks for taking the initiative, Nicholas. Having been in the biz for a decade, it would be nice to exchange ideas and knowledge within our 3d world.

moshenko
Hey, thanks for all the responses, everyone. This is looking like a trip down memory lane! blowback, I don't know what to say about the location. Right now this is all about meeting in person and getting to know who's who in the greater Toronto area (GTA). If the meetings turn out to be real barn-burners you might want to look into flights... Jeff Mottle
Jeff, I think you do enough already. Your wife will kill u but seriously ..... whats up with the c-town? That's true, but I just checked the forum database and there are about 60 people listed from Calgary + about another 5-10 people I know. Bound to be some people willing to help. As not to get too far off topic on this thread, I've already contacted Nicholas and there are around 300 people listed in the T.O. area on our forums, so once something official gets off the ground, I'll be sending all of those people and email to let them know to RSVP for the gathering. moshenko
It's great to see that there is interest here, thanks to everyone for posting. I am going to move ahead with planning the first event which likely won't take place until September (August is just too packed with vacations, deadlines, etc.). As Jeff mentioned, an invitation will be sent out to all Toronto + area CGA members and I will get some kind of mailing list set up to deal with responses. In the meantime, please spread the word and keep the names coming!

Susan
On the second Tuesday of every month, a large group of long time Toronto Architectural Illustrators, predominantly watercolourists, get together. It has been a number of years since I attended but I bet that is still on. It would be very interesting for a CG group to meet with that group. They meet at the Duke of York. I could make some calls if anyone is interested.
