moshenko
On the second Tuesday of every month, a large group of long time Toronto Architectural Illustrators, predominantly watercolourists, get together. It has been a number of years since I attended but I bet that is still on. It would be very interesting for a CG group to meet with that group. They meet at the Duke of York. I could make some calls if anyone is interested. Hi Susan, I would love to see our two groups meet. I think we in the CG community can always learn a lot from traditional artists, and I'm sure we can provide an equal amount of insight and new ideas to them. Please, make the calls and let them know about our intentions!

Susan
I've made the calls and the group is still meeting on the Upstairs floor of the Duke of York on the second Tuesday of every month. They would be delighted to meet with an interested group of CG Architects. August is slow and half of the members are expected to be away but September may be a good kickoff. We would need to get some concrete numbers together as there is a standing reservation and we would need to provide a higher number. The members often do a show and tell so it would be great for people to bring some examples of their work. I expect the members to be nothing but gracious, however I do have a bit of a warning. Not all of these guys are old timers ready to retire. Many are middle aged and have no interest or no inkling in becoming computer saavy. They do still all have consistent work but things have become much harder for them in the last 10 years. Really bad in the last 5. Their market is being eroded by the CG crowd and they are often resentful. In fact, the the very last time that I attended, I had shown them some work using Piranesi, a non too technical application, and when I showed them my work and answered some questions I said "It isn't like you press one button and it's done". In response someone sniggered "Yeah, it's two buttons". So just suggesting that we are mindful of their sensitivities. There is so much to learn from these guys it should be a very interesting meeting.

I'm off on a week's vacation starting tomorrow but I will get things rolling when I'm back.

moshenko
Hi - I'm still working on organizing a first event and I'm aiming for mid-October at this point. I think there will be a mailing list set up in the next week and more details will be provided. I'm really glad to see that interest is still strong! Square Leaf
I just wanted to send out a thank you to Oliver, Nicholas and Dalibor for putting together last nights event! I was interesting to see what other companies are doing in the area and to get to meet with like-minded individuals and chat. The only question now is, when are we doing it again? Thanks again guys, great job! S
moshenko
I want to thank everyone for coming to the inaugeral event last night. I'm really impressed with the turnout and I'm absolutely sure that Toronto is ready for this group. As I mentioned to a few people last night, we will continue to communicate through the mailing list about next steps. Some of those next steps will include frequency of meetings, shared organization responsibilities, meeting topics and guest speakers/presenters. Thanks to Jeff for helping spread the word also. We took some pictures last night and I will have someone upload them when we have a chance.

Bullet
Looks like a great turn out. To bad I had to miss it Is there a chance that the next one could be held on a weekend or even friday nights for those who want to attend from out of town like myself? If not I guess I can tell my boss it's a conference and try to have them pay for my traveling expense! (wishful thinking)
