shaneis
Hi George, you could model the entire thing which would be time consuming but very good practice. You could also do it using displacement mapping and cutout. Here's a link to a thread covering the displacement technique... http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/29898-water-level.html Nice chair, by the way. Where did you find it? Something to consider also, if you did model it, that's the sort of model that might sell a few copies on Turbosquid.
nelpiper
Hi there. Very cool challenge! You can try this. Look for a procedural fracture script (BM breaker or deconstructor may help) and use it on the chair seat. After you've broken it apart, use the inset tool to give the pieces some thick edges and with the polygon pieces still selected, hit the bridge button. Does it make sense? I hope it works. Good luck. Andy Park
I would draw the back and seat outline using splines, extrude that 5mm, bend it into the shape you need, then you have two options for the arms 1. do the same as above then weld into place, you will probably have to vert edit a little. 2. box model the arms out of the exisiting seat and back. good luck. Brute Guy
Hi George, First thing that comes to mind is to use some elements from this link? http://designreform.net/2008/05/25/3ds-max-tutorial-modeling-a-hexagon-screen/ you could vary the shapes, but in terms of smooth joins, this could be part of the answer?
