Brute Guy
Hi, I'm in the process of texturing some tyres. I'll refer to the attached pictures bump_a.jpg and bump_b.jpg: I'd like to texture the tyres as shown in 'bump_b.jpg' however I would like the material shown in 'bump_a.jpg' as my material for the tyre. Problem is the texture in 'bump_a.jpg' (really fine fractal bump) is already taking up my bump slot. How can I use the material in 'bump_a.jpg' as my main tyre material but then apply the bump shown in 'bump_b.jpg'? Any thoughts? Peter M. Gruhn
Either a Mix Map or an RGB Multiply map might do the job. Drop one into a new slot. They each have two slots in them for sub maps. Put the noise in one slot and the tread in the other slot. (Set the Mix Map to 50% mix for starters.) Go back to the good material. Replace it's noise bump map with the mix or mult map. The two options have different behaviours. You may need to tweak the submaps to make them work better together. I'm only on Max 9, I think the new version has an updated Composite map with Photoshop type blend modes. One of those may be good too. - gruhn
