Stan Zaslavsky
does anyone have a quick way of creating garage doors without going for plugins? so far i've been using boolean to cut out a space and then a fixed window with a solid pane. i'm sure there is a better way though. cheers,
Claudio Branch
I would use a plane with an appropriate amount of vertical and horizontal segments and then collapse it to Editable Poly. Using EP's commands like Extrude, Bevel, Inset, and Bridge, you should be able to model this rather quickly. It might even be helpful to create the plane and map an image of the garage door in question onto it first. By doing this, you can quickly get the exact segment count you need and have a reference image for finishing out the model. Give Editable Poly a shot. It is very fast and easy! Claudio Branch
Good luck with your modeling. Once you get that part done you will probably want to use a Multi Sub-Object material for texturing. Post up an image or two if you get a chance!
Stan Zaslavsky
what about putting in a door but re-oriented to fit and then modifying the texture of the door?
WAcky
Stan, do you mean a door like this? http://www.walshind.com/images/garage_door.jpg Or like this? http://www.bgid.co.uk/pic/rollersm.jpg Or something else all together?
Claudio Branch
Or something else all together? I thought he might be looking for something like this: http://www.abedoors.com/images/windows/residential_garage_doors.jpg
WAcky
Ah i thought so. These are so easy. I just use editable poly. Then just use the connect, inset, bevel and extrude maybe with a chamfer functions here and there.
Stan Zaslavsky
thanks for the comments guys - i appreciate the help. i havent got the grasp of EP just yet - i know how to slice and maybe a couple more. but for the bevel etc functions - it'll take me a little while. the job is due in a day's time - and i havent gotten to the rendering part yet the client also wants the image heavily photoshopped - he wants it to look artistic so i think i'll fake it for now with a "door" - see enclosed ignore the surrounds - its very much WIP!
