Tommy Burns
Hi all Here is a few images of my recent work. Would appreciate some C+C's from you guys and maybe a few ideas for my next project. It was modeled in Microstation and rendered in Max 2009 with MR and post done in PS. Thanks in advance Tommy
Claudio Branch
Interesting style... The renders are rather soft and airy. What drove that decison? I found 3 & 4 to be the most effective. The foliage is really nice. IMO, 1 & 2 suffer because of the inclusion of the automobiles. The problem is that the cars have as much (or possibly more) detail than the buildings and the shadows beneath them don't really ground them well. They still read like they are floating to me. Nice images...
Tommy Burns
Thanks Claudio The reason they are like that is for the planners my boss likes them to not look to realistic. I do render them realistic but then bring them into PS and create that look (It breaks my heart at times but thats what is needed). I agree with you on the cars they didn't quite fit in with the style but thats what was asked for. I suppose I could have got the shadows a bit better maybe by doing a shadow pass on them? I never really get to do realistic images although i'm capable of it and would prefer to do but these are the type of images that are needed from me. Sometimes it's fun and challenging trying to create new styles though. Tommy

It would be interesting to see the images prior to the post effects.
portisgreg
If you're going for a softer look, you could try Piranesi? Or you can achieve a similar thing with photoshop, layering and brushes. What about keeping the building full colour and de-saturating the background? Not sure about the airy style but the last couple of images are definitely strongest. V nice. BillyElNino
I think the washed out look that you have applied over the images has taken away the detail and contrast from the images so its difficult to focus on the buildings... I would look at other ways to give a sketched conceptual feel, maybe with only massing blocks for context buildings, indicative textures rather than photo real, no textures or a clay model feel. I also think the cars are in one render style, the people in one and the vegetation in another which clashes. What you could consider is a photo real background, vehicles and people with a concept model montaged in. Playing with the opacity of materials will work better than the white out you have applied. Tommy Burns
Thanks Guys I hate doing that washed out look but that is what's requested here all the time. I know I could do a much better image (style) but hands are tied. If someone sees an image and they like the style, that's it every image has to look like that from then on!! William you are spot on about the vegatation/cars/people again all requested from boss!!!! (How can I soar like an eagle when I'm working with budgies:p) Greg I had in mind to do the building in full coulor but again not wanted Claudio I'm attaching some of the post images you were interested in. Thanks for the ideas and support!!! Tommy
