portisgreg
Hi there, Doing this visual/montage of a hotel up a cliff face. I've got to put a road in between the buildings (a bit like the 2nd image), what would be the best way to achieve this do you think? Model the road in Max and then layer trees around it in Photoshop? Many thanks Greg
Arnold Sher
okay i can help... We recently done something very similar. Development on a hill to be exact with roads and all sort of stuff to go with it. We tried it in photoshop but could not achieve the desired effect as it was rather tricky to cut a road into an existing photograph that looked correct in the perspective so that plan was out the window. What we did do is rebuild the mountain as closest possible in 3d to a photograph that we had and placed our houses the way they were meant to be on the land i.e. incline and location than we did a camera match to the photograph, made sure our sun was at the correct angle in a correct direction and intensity. Than in vray we "matte" the mountain so it became "hidden" and the only function it served was to received shadows that were transparent. The effect surprised us all... the result was spectcular to the point that client could not believe that montaged it. We did not even post it in photoshop, it just worked... Hopefully this helps and looking forward in seeing your results...
portisgreg
Thanks Arnold, that sounds like a good solution to me. Only issue i think I have is that I don't have Vray, I'm using mental ray. I don't suppose you know of a way to achieve it using MR? I actually bought a 3D model of the cliff from an OS company so I may as well use that. Thanks again.
