visualmusic.4
Hi all- Anyone know a quick way to remove lamina faces in 3ds Max? I've had some models given to me that were created in Sketchup and they are impossible to render in V-ray with all these shared faces. I don't want to rebuild these models so I'm looking for a quick fix. So far I've been going to each face and deleting but it's very tedious and taking forever... Any advice?? Thanks, Ed
RobNJ73
I'd be interested to hear this, too... the times I've had to work with Sketchup models, I've had to do the same. In the end, it might've been faster for me to model it from scratch.
kbotnen
I dont know how to delete the faces but here is how I do my Sketchup -> 3ds max + Vray work. You use export by materials or something in Sketchup. Then you texture it in Vray (just give each different face type a coor or texture) and you can take a convert materials to Vray at the exported scene when its in 3ds max. Thats how I went when exporting from Sketchup to 3ds max + Vray. I dont have my workstation in front of me now, but I can check out settings at a later time if interested. Works quite well for me, but havent tested on real complex Sketchup models yet, and it might require you to ask the Sketchup guy to re-export for you. -K-
portisgreg
I'd be interested. I've been working on some sketchup models over the past couple of weeks and the amount of face flipping I've had to do is ridiculous!
Tommy Burns
I wouldn't bother i'd re-model it thats what i always do. Even if you do bring it in by object, layers, material it is still probably model by someone who knows nothing about standards in 3d. The modeling will usually be terrible with vertices all over the place and loads of duplicated and flipped faces. It is a great modeling tool and easy to pick up and do what you like (and thats what everyone does!!!!) but unfortunately we are the ones that have to clean up their mess afterwards.
